What are Travel Teams?
In club volleyball, a travel team is a team of approximately 10-12 girls who practice together one, two, or three times per week (depending on the team's level) and compete in several tournaments per year. We have two levels: National Travel Teams and Regional Travel Teams.
National Travel Teams - Adidas/Black
National Travel Teams are our highest level of competitive teams. These teams compete in the full slate of regional tournaments (hosted by the SCVA, Southern California's governing body for club volleyball) as well as a handful of national tournaments held out of the state.
The season for our National Travel Teams (also called our Adidas and Black teams, ex: Lava Shack 14 Adidas, Lava Shack 15 Black) begins in early November for 12's-14's and late November for 15's-18's. Adidas teams practice three times per week and Black teams practice 2-2.5 times per week. The season runs through the end of May for 12's and through the end of June for 13's-18's. The last event of the season for National Travel Teams is a multi-day out-of-state travel tournament, either the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships (location changes annually) or the Volleyball Festival (held in Phoenix each year).
Regional Travel Teams - Red/White
Regional Travel Teams are teams that only compete in those regional tournaments hosted by the SCVA, Southern California's governing body for club volleyball (tournaments held in Anaheim and Anaheim-adjacent areas). Regional teams do not attend national tournaments held out of the state.
The season for Regional Travel Teams (also called our Red or White teams, ex: Lava Shack 14 Red, Lava Shack 15 White) begins in early November for 12's-14's and late November for 15's-18's. Red teams practices twice per week and White teams practice once per week. The season runs through the end of May/early June for all age divisions. The last event of the season is the SCVA SoCal Championships, a weekend tournament held in Anaheim by the SCVA.
