LAVA Glendale Volleyball Club is based in Glendale, CA, and is run out of Glendale High School. It is our newest location and will be serving families and communities in the Glendale area.

ABout Lava Glendale
LAVA Glendale is the newest affiliate location of the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy, launched in July of 2024. The program looks to field four to six teams annually across the various age divisions, as well as offer extensive youth programs and non-travel juniors training programs. The program will run out of Glendale, CA.
We strive to train our athletes to become the best volleyball players they can be -- dedicated, hard-working, passionate, disciplined -- as well as excellent teammates and accomplished young women.
The Club Director for LAVA Glendale is a successful collegiate, high school, and club coach, George Rodriguez.

GEORGE RODRIGUEZ
DIRECTOR - LAVA MELROSE
George Rodriguez enters his ninth season as a Cal State L.A. assistant
coach and 13th season overall as a collegiate volleyball coach.
Rodriguez originally came to CSLA in 1990 as an assistant, spending six
seasons (1990-95) with the Golden Eagles before moving to Cal Poly
Pomona as an assistant. He returned to Cal State L.A. for the 2000
season.
In each of Rodriguez’s last five seasons at CSLA, the Golden Eagles
have earned NCAA Tournament berths, including a fourth-place
national finish in 1992 and a third-place finish in 2005.
Rodriguez’s coaching experience also includes tenures at Salesian, San
Gabriel Mission, Marlborough School, Mayfield, Flintridge Prep
Glendale Community College and East L.A. College. His Salesian teams
earned league titles in five of his six seasons. In 1987 and 1988 directed
the Flintridge Prep Boys’ Volleyball team to a back-to-back league
championship.
He was the director and owner of the Top Gun Volleyball
Club. George also was the Women’s Head Volleyball Coach at East Los
Angeles College. Before arriving there, the volleyball team’s had a
record of 6 wins and 143 losses in a 10-year span. In his 5th season
George won more than 55 matches. Many already consider him the
winningest coach in school history.
He is currently the boys’ and girls’ Varsity Head Coach at Campbell Hall. In the summer of 2005 George was the assistant volleyball coach in a movie called: All You’ve Got Produced by MTV. He also recruited the girls for that movie. As of November 3rd, 2008 George was named the new Head Coach at USC Women’s Volleyball Club team.
In 2010 Campbell Hall Girls’ team won CIF SS Championship and finishing 4th in the state. Coaching the Campbell Hall Boys Volleyball Team, he has won 3 League titles and in 2012 went to the State Finals. In 2022 George was named the Head Volleyball Coach at Los Angeles City College.

National Travel Teams
We offer club volleyball travel teams for 6th-12th grade girls that compete both regionally in Southern California and nationally at competitive events across the country. Tryouts are in fall and the season traditionally runs Nov-June.

Regional Travel Teams
We offer club volleyball travel teams for 4th-12th grade girls that only compete regionally in Southern California. Tryouts are in fall and the season traditionally runs Nov-June, although for some teams (especially younger age group teams) the season can be shorter by several weeks or months.

Local Play Teams
We offer club teams for 3rd-10th grade girls that compete at a more localized level, not traveling very far from their home location and/or within the LAVA affiliate network itself. Tryouts are in fall and the season could begin as early as November and run as late as May; season length is on a team-by-team basis.

Summer Programs
LAVA Glendale offers an extensive array of summer program offerings, including camps, workshops, private lessons, and training pods. You can sign up for as much as you want and we want to see you in the gym!

JUNIORS NON-TRAVEL - FOR 6TH-8TH GRADERS
@ LAVA GLENDALE FOR 6TH-8TH GRADE GIRLS: The Juniors Program is primarily for 6th-8th graders, although 9th graders can participate with Director approval on a case-by-case basis depending on available space and the time of year. 6th graders are encouraged to participate in Juniors instead of the Lite during winter or spring sessions, and the Lite in summer or fall. The program usually runs on two courts, a Beginner/Intermediate Court for newer players and an Advanced Court for experienced juniors athletes.

YOUTH LITE - FOR 3RD-5TH GRADERS
The Lite Program is the official youth training and development program of LAVA Glendale, designed to give young athletes a taste of volleyball in a encouraging environment that mixes quality skills training with lots of fun games to build a passion for this wonderful sport. The program is coached by professional, paid coaches; it is not volunteer-based and, as such, the training value and player growth is significant.

LAVA Glendale houses an excellent coaching staff full of men and women of great character and experience. Our staff has multiple past or present high school and college coaches, not to mention excellent players during their own athletic careers, in all centuries of collective volleyball experience. We strive to train our athletes to become the best volleyball players, and finest people, they can be. They also understand what it means to cultivate a team and strive to ensure the experience of our athletes is a positive one they will take with them.
