TREVOR JULIAN
DIRECTOR - LAVA WEST (INDOOR)

Trevor Julian is one of the most recognizable and respected club directors in Southern California, having guided the rise to prominence of Lava West as a nationally known club program, having launched and overseen the growth of the whole of the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy itself, and having positioned himself at the forefront of groups working as advisors to other clubs and volleyball organizations before, during, and after the pandemic, to help benefit the region.

Trevor is also a long-time and immensely popular girls club volleyball coach — his teams have won multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals in recent years in national competition and consistently compete in the Premier Divisions at regional tournaments — and he has one of the most impeccable reputations in the region for dealing with players and parents in an honest and caring way, known for infusing his high enthusiasm, relentless positivity, and deep passion for volleyball into every element of his coaching.

Trevor is a former award-winning volleyball player himself — captain and four-year starter for the USC Trojans, multi-year member and captain of the USA Men’s Olympic Youth and Junior National Teams — who transitioned degrees in English and Business into a successful career in commercial real estate before following his own passion into volleyball full-time.

Trevor is the Director of LAVA West and oversees the coaches, players, and families of that program. He has head coached the 13’s, 14’s, 15's, 16’s, and 18’s age groups with tremendous success in recent years; indeed, Trevor has experienced the most dramatic run of success one coach has ever seen in the Conejo Valley: three gold medals, a silver medal, and three bronze medals, plus six qualification bids to Junior Nationals.

Please feel free to contact Trevor with any questions about the LAVA West program. His contact information is below and he is eager to speak with you. For Trevor's full bio, click here.

- LAVA WEST HIGHLIGHTS -

Every club says they are "the premier club" of their area. It is one thing to say it -- it is another thing entirely to back it up over multiple seasons of on-court performance across multiple age divisions. LAVA West is the premier club of Ventura County. In fact, over the past few seasons it has proven the most successful indoor club in the history of Ventura County.

2021/2022 ... Lava West saw explosive growth, fielding twenty-one teams across eight age divisions (11's-18's). We continued our winning ways, with four medals earned in national competition (Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Bronze), four teams qualified into the PVL, three teams earning qualification bids to Junior Nationals, multiple Top 5 finishes, and even more Top 10 finishes. Highlights include 14 Adidas taking the Bronze Medal at Junior Nationals (after taking Gold at Red Rock JNQ), 12 Adidas taking Silver at the SCVA Bid Event, and 17 Adidas earning Bronze at the Red Rock JNQ. We also had 16 Adidas take 4th, 15 Adidas take 5th, and 13 Adidas take 7th at the Pacific NW JNQ. Multiple Lava West teams also competed in the Gold Divisions of the SCVA. It was another stellar year for Lava West, in which we thoroughly outperformed our local competition.

2020/2021 ... Lava West jumped right back to its successful ways during the challenging club season of 2020-2021. It was challenging for all in the midst of the pandemic, but Lava West earned rave reviews for its handling of the pandemic and we are immensely proud of our success in keeping our athletes, coaches, parents, and the community safe. On court, five Lava West teams qualified for the inaugural season of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), the elite-level regional power league, easily the most of any club in Ventura County. The club won three medals in national tournament competition (Silver, Bronze, and Bronze) and three teams (18 Adidas, 16 Adidas, and 11 Adidas) earned qualification bids to Junior Nationals. We also had multiple Top 10 finishes at national tournaments, with highlights including 17 Adidas finishing 4th at the Pacific Northwest JNQ in Spokane, 16 Adidas taking 7th at the President's Day PVL Classic, and 15 Adidas finishing 10th at the Lonestar Classic in Houston. It cannot be overstated how tremendous an achievement the on-court performances of our teams were this season, nor how dominant our Lava West teams were as compared to the rest of Conejo Valley and greater Ventura County.

2019/2020 ... In a pandemic-shortened season, there was minimal tournament play to allow West teams to earn accolades. At the Las Vegas Classic over President's Day weekend, our 17 Adidas, 16 Adidas, and 15 Adidas teams all finished in the upper half of teams in Open Division play, highlighted by the 17's finishing Top 12 in Open Elite. All LAVA West Adidas teams were competing in the Gold Divisions of the SCVA (Top 64), highlighted by 13 Adidas earning their way into Division One. 15 Adidas and 17 Adidas played their way into Division Two.

2018/2019 ... LAVA West 16 Adidas won a Silver Medal at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Indianapolis in July 2019 (16 Patriot). The 18 Adidas team qualified for 18's Junior Nationals (USA) and finished in the Top 12 at that tournament. Two teams played their way into Division One of the SCVA: Lava West 14 Adidas and Lava West 18 Adidas. Every Adidas team competed in the Gold Bracket (Top 64) of the SCVA Regional League.

2017/2018 ... LAVA West won four medals in national tournament competition: a Silver Medal (17's National) and a Gold Medal (15's Patriot) at the 2018 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Detroit, a Bronze Medal (17's Open) at the Las Vegas Classic, and a Bronze Medal (17's USA) at the Pacific Northwest Junior National Qualifier in Spokane. Two teams earned highly coveted and rare bids to Junior Nationals, Lava West 17 Adidas (National bid via regional performance and USA bid at the PNW JNQ) and Lava West 16 Adidas (American bid via regional performance). Three teams played their way into Division One of the SCVA: Lava West 13 Adidas, Lava West 15 Adidas, and Lava West 16 Adidas. 12 Adidas and 17 Adidas played their way into Division Two. Every Adidas team competed in the Gold Bracket (Top 64) of the SCVA Regional League.

2016/2017 ... LAVA West won three medals in national tournament competition: a Gold Medal (18's Patriot) at the 2017 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Dallas, a Bronze Medal (16's USA) at the Mideast Junior National Qualifier in Indianapolis, and a Bronze Medal (12's Open) at the JVA West Coast Cup in Long Beach. Two teams earned bids to Junior Nationals, Lava West 16 Adidas (USA at the MEQ JNQ) and Lava West 14 Adidas (USA at the SCVA JNQ). Our Lava West 18 Adidas team finished the year ranked #5 overall in the SCVA 18's Division, topped only by our Lava West 16 Adidas team which spent the entire season in Division One for 16's and finished #3 overall. Lava West 14 Adidas also reached Division One and every Adidas team competed in the Gold of SCVA (Top 64).

2015/2016 ... LAVA West won three medals in national tournament competition: a Gold Medal (16's USA) at the Pacific Northwest Junior National Qualifier in Spokane, a Bronze Medal (15's USA) at the SoCal Junior National Qualifier in Anaheim, and a Bronze Medal (14's Patriot) at the 2016 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships. Two teams earned bids to Junior Nationals, Lava West 16 Adidas (USA at the PNW JNQ) and Lava West 15 Adidas (Open via regional performance and USA via SCVA JNQ). Lava West 15 Adidas and Lava West 14 Adidas reached Division One of the SCVA, while every Adidas team again competed in the Gold of SCVA (Top 64).

Additional Highlights from Previous Seasons Include: a Gold Medal (14's USA) at the SoCal Junior National Qualifier in Anaheim; a Gold Medal (18's Open) at the Volleyball Festival National Championships; and bids earned in by Lava West 14 Adidas (USA at the SCVA JNQ) and Lava West 13 Adidas (American via regional performance) not to mention more than thirty Top Five finishes at competitive national tournaments.

To Recap: Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Gold, Silver, Silver, Silver, Bronze, Bronze, Bronze, Bronze, Bronze, Bronze, and Bronze. Qualification Bids Earned to Junior Nationals: Eleven. Regional Bids Earned to Junior Nationals: Four. Total Bids Earned by Lava West: Fifteen.

Simply stated, Lava West has dominated the competition ... and it's not even close. Congratulations to our Lava West teams!

In July 2022, Lava West officially took possession of our new exclusive two-court facility, which will open for volleyball use in September 2022!

The property will be known as Lava Headquarters (LAVA HQ) and is located at 2360 Townsgate Road, Thousand Oaks. With over 14,000 square feet, the facility will feature two full size volleyball courts, a performance training space, a player lounge, a hydration station, study areas, and even more exciting features soon to be announced. Work will be done to the facility over the course of the next few weeks to get the court space up and running for volleyball use in the fall. It will be the volleyball home-away-from-home the athletes of this area have wished for and asked for for years.

We will also continue to use the old Athletic Society courts at 2400 Willow Lane, Thousand Oaks. The Athletic Society Fitness Gym has closed, but Lava West's use of the excellent volleyball courts in the building will continue into the foreseeable future. We will also maintain our strong relationships with our other school and community facility spaces in the area.

But our home and headquarters for the next decade and longer will be our phenomenal new facility at 2360 Townsgate Road, Thousand Oaks.

YOUTH LITE PROGRAM @ LAVA WEST
FOR 3RD-5TH GRADE GIRLS

The Youth Lite Program at LAVA West has been popular and successful for several years. The program is seasonal -- Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall -- with each session running for multiple weeks. The cost per player for each session depends upon the length of the session (customarily ranges from $98-$198 per player). It runs primarily on Tuesdays afternoons for 75 minutes each practice.

The Lite Program is the official youth training and development program of LAVA West. The program is designed to give young athletes a taste of volleyball in a encouraging environment that mixes quality skills training with lots of fun games to build a passion for this wonderful sport. The program is coached by professional, paid coaches; it is not volunteer-based and, as such, the training value and player growth is significant.

The Lite Program is primarily for 3rd-5th graders, although 2nd graders or 6th graders can participate with Director approval on a case-by-case basis depending on available space and the time of year. The program usually runs on two courts, a Beginner/Intermediate Court for newer players and an Advanced Court for experienced youth athletes.

JUNIORS NON-TRAVEL PROGRAM @ LAVA WEST
FOR 6TH-8TH GRADE GIRLS

The Juniors Program at LAVA West has been a strong training program for middle school athletes for several years. The program is seasonal -- Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall -- with each session running for multiple weeks. The cost per player for each session depends upon the length of the session (customarily ranges from $98-$248 per player). It runs primarily on Wednesdays in Thousand Oaks.

The Juniors Program is the official middle school non-travel training program of LAVA West, designed to provide quality technical training with focus on individual development (skills training and having fun). The program is for girls who are not looking to play on a travel club volleyball team, but who wish to keep their skills up either out of love for the game or a desire to play in high school, or both! It limits both the cost and time commitment required to participate, but still provides excellent training at the hands of professional, paid coaches; it is not volunteer-based and, as such, the training value and player growth is significant.

The Juniors Program is primarily for 6th-8th graders, although 9th graders can participate with Director approval on a case-by-case basis depending on available space and the time of year. 6th graders are encouraged to participate in Juniors instead of the Lite during winter or spring sessions, and the Lite in summer or fall.
